In The Spotlight

Every month Fresno Scene Magazine recognizes a few of the valley’s best. A person (or persons) that stand out in their profession, an inspiration to others, or someone who goes beyond to better our community. This month

Fresno Scene Magazine would like to recognize Daniel Licon; a 38 year old valley resident who was in a motorcycle accident March 16, 1994 leaving him a T 4/5 paraplegic. This heroic inspiration is unstoppable! He’s an adrenaline junkie who loves experiencing the thrill of new ideas.

Daniel’s life has been filled with plenty of adrenaline fl owing activities since his accident, such as snow skiing

in 1996, horseback riding in 1997, skydiving in 1997, and wake-boarding in 2006 and this month Daniel will receive his certification in Scuba diving!

One thing Daniel misses most since the accident is walking on grass., “its the simple things in life” Daniel says. Daniel’s dream is for his business to one day take off ! His non-profit Organization, Handiwhatinc, is Extreme Sports for the uncapped. His goal is to help people with disabilities to become more active in the public. Visit his website for more information: www.handiwhatinc.org.

Daniel enjoys working out. For cardio he uses the hand-cycle and focuses on his upper body. He admits that he didn’t really do any of this stuff before his accident, it has pushed him to want more. Those close to Daniel say he is extremely positive and very inspirational to be around. He is involved in community outreach and hospitals call on him to talk with others that are recently paralyzed or are having difficulties with it.

Daniel is a true inspiration!
