Valentine Wine

$20 Chocolates and $200 Roses……Really?

Ladies, this may be the one and only time an article starts off with an apology directly to you. So here goes, to all you ladies reading this I apologize for what I am about to say in advance.

Guys (skip this step if she is sitting next to you) let’s all say this in unison…Valentine’s Day is Emotional robbery!

Let’s face it Valentine’s Day is a total trap with no way out.  Roses don’t bloom in February, (which is why they are so freaking expensive) and chocolates…didn’t we just get done with three months of sweets?   And I would be willing to wager that the vast majority of our girlfriends and wives who made New Year’s resolutions did so with the words “I need to lose some weight”.  So you are trapped! Buy the expensive flowers that will last two days before they die - buy the chocolates and take your chances with that conversation, don’t buy either and deal with THAT conversation or come to Water2Wine for a gift that will please you both (possibly another apology needed here but oh well).

I am no Casanova (that was hard to say with a straight face) but I do know that a thoughtful gift; a solid effort at a homemade gourmet meal and a great bottle of wine will get her attention.  Confident enough to know you can’t boil water safely? Then make reservations with one of the great restaurants in town.   Either way make sure that bottle of wine has a custom label or picture on it of something special to her like your trip to the beach, the day in the snow,  your wedding day, chick stuff!

I have over 90 wines to pair with whatever you could come up with for a romantic evening AND I can put a custom label on any of them.  Imagine the look on her face when she sees a great bottle of wine with a picture of her and her favorite stuffed toy as a little girl, “O my god, you remembered! You’re so thoughtful.” (Not really.  You probably had to call her mother since you zoned out on that part of the photo album but that isn’t the point right now).

Better yet the 12th and the 13th of February is the Wine and Chocolates weekend for the Twin River Vintners Association and it’s FREE!  That’s right FREE, though you will most likely end up buying some wine and you will definitely end up at Water 2Wine, where again I will shamelessly promote the fact that you can put a custom label on a special bottle for her (are you getting the point yet?).

So what have we learned today? I am in trouble with 70% of the female population for my blasphemous assault on Valentine’s Day. That there are better alternatives to the chocolate/rose money pit and that without a doubt you can make a very romantic impression with just a few days of planning.  Oh, and just in case you were thinking that a bottle of Arbor Mist or Two Buck Chuck and take out Chinese will cut it…. Good luck and be prepared for THAT conversation.
